Creta é um daqueles destinos que consegue reunir praticamente tudo aquilo que muitos viajantes procuram para umas férias memoráveis: praias de águas cristalinas, gastronomia mediterrânica, história milenar, aldeias tradicionais e um clima privilegiado durante grande parte do ano. Durante a nossa viagem à maior ilha da Grécia, tivemos a oportunidade de passar três noites no Mitsis Royal Mare, uma das unidades mais reconhecidas da região de Hersonissos, e a experiência acabou por superar largamente as expectativas.

Desde o momento da chegada percebemos que este não era apenas mais um resort junto ao mar. Localizado na costa norte da ilha, próximo de Hersonissos, o hotel beneficia de uma excelente localização para quem pretende combinar descanso com a descoberta de algumas das principais atrações de Creta.

A poucos minutos encontram-se diversas praias, tavernas tradicionais e zonas comerciais. Ao mesmo tempo, a localização permite realizar facilmente excursões para outras áreas da ilha, incluindo Heraklion, o Palácio de Knossos e algumas das mais famosas praias cretenses.

Apesar da proximidade a vários pontos de interesse, a sensação dentro do resort é de total tranquilidade. Os amplos jardins, os caminhos rodeados de vegetação e as diversas piscinas espalhadas pela propriedade criam um ambiente relaxante que convida imediatamente a desacelerar.

Um quarto com acesso direto à piscina

Uma das melhores decisões da viagem foi optar por um quarto no piso térreo com piscina partilhada. Este acabou por ser um dos aspetos que mais valorizámos durante toda a estadia.

Ter acesso direto à água a partir do terraço do quarto proporcionava uma sensação de liberdade difícil de igualar. Bastava abrir a porta e mergulhar, sem necessidade de procurar espreguiçadeiras ou deslocar-se para as zonas principais do hotel.

O quarto em si era bastante confortável e espaçoso, apresentando uma decoração elegante inspirada nos tons mediterrânicos. Os materiais utilizados, as áreas generosas e a luminosidade natural criavam um ambiente muito agradável para descansar entre momentos passados na piscina ou na praia.

As camas eram extremamente confortáveis e a insonorização permitia desfrutar de noites tranquilas, mesmo num resort de grande dimensão.

Um dos pontos fortes: a gastronomia

Se existe um elemento que realmente se destacou durante a nossa estadia foi a oferta gastronómica.

O pequeno-almoço buffet apresentava uma enorme variedade de opções. Desde frutas frescas, pastelaria, pães artesanais e produtos locais até opções internacionais mais completas, havia sempre algo diferente para experimentar.

O mesmo acontecia ao almoço e ao jantar. O buffet principal era muito diversificado e uma das características mais interessantes era a existência de dias temáticos. Esta abordagem permite variar os sabores ao longo da semana e evita a sensação de repetição que por vezes acontece em resorts all inclusive.

A qualidade dos produtos era consistentemente elevada e existia uma preocupação evidente em oferecer tanto especialidades gregas como pratos internacionais.

Para quem gosta de descobrir sabores locais, havia sempre diversas opções inspiradas na gastronomia cretense, conhecida pelo uso de azeite, vegetais frescos, ervas aromáticas e peixe.

Além do restaurante buffet, o resort disponibiliza vários restaurantes à la carte especializados em diferentes cozinhas.

Durante a nossa estadia tivemos oportunidade de experimentar alguns deles e ficámos bastante impressionados com a qualidade da experiência. O ambiente era mais intimista, o serviço mais personalizado e os pratos apresentavam um nível de detalhe muito interessante.

Uma dica importante para futuros hóspedes é efetuar as reservas logo no dia de chegada. As marcações podem ser feitas através da aplicação do hotel, um sistema simples e bastante prático. Como estes restaurantes são bastante procurados, reservar antecipadamente aumenta significativamente as hipóteses de conseguir experimentar várias opções durante a estadia.

O Mitsis Royal Mare destaca-se também pelas suas inúmeras piscinas distribuídas pela propriedade.

Os diferentes espaços aquáticos foram desenhados para criar ambientes variados, permitindo que cada hóspede encontre o local mais adequado ao seu estilo de férias. Algumas zonas são mais tranquilas e focadas no relaxamento, enquanto outras apresentam um ambiente mais animado.

A manutenção das piscinas era excelente durante toda a nossa estadia, algo que contribuiu bastante para o conforto geral.

O bar da praia revelou-se uma agradável surpresa. Ao longo do dia era possível pedir cocktails, bebidas frescas e snacks sem necessidade de regressar ao edifício principal.

Esta comodidade permitia desfrutar da praia durante horas sem interrupções, algo que valorizámos bastante.

As águas cristalinas típicas de Creta completavam um cenário perfeito para relaxar e aproveitar o clima mediterrânico.

Cocktails ao pôr do sol

Um dos nossos momentos favoritos acontecia ao final da tarde no bar principal do resort.

Além da excelente carta de bebidas, o espaço beneficia de vistas fantásticas para o mar e para o pôr do sol. Ver o céu transformar-se gradualmente em tons dourados e alaranjados enquanto se saboreia um cocktail preparado na perfeição tornou-se uma rotina que rapidamente passámos a apreciar.

Os bartenders demonstravam grande profissionalismo e os cocktails estavam entre os melhores que experimentámos durante a viagem.

A combinação entre o ambiente descontraído, a vista e a qualidade das bebidas criava uma experiência muito especial.

Embora tenhamos passado grande parte do tempo entre a praia e as piscinas, vale a pena referir que o hotel é também amplamente reconhecido pelo seu centro de bem-estar.

O resort alberga um dos maiores spas da Grécia, oferecendo uma vasta gama de tratamentos, massagens e programas de relaxamento. Esta aposta no wellness é um dos elementos que contribuiu para a reputação internacional da propriedade.

Crete is one of those destinations that seems to have everything travelers look for in a memorable holiday: crystal-clear beaches, outstanding Mediterranean cuisine, fascinating history, charming villages, and fantastic weather for most of the year. During our trip to Greece’s largest island, we had the opportunity to spend three nights at the Mitsis Royal Mare, one of the most renowned resorts in the Hersonissos area, and the experience exceeded all our expectations.

From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this was much more than just another beachfront resort. The scale of the property, the beautifully maintained gardens, the Mediterranean-inspired architecture, and the constant presence of the sea create a truly special atmosphere. Over the course of our stay, we explored different areas of the resort and quickly understood why it is considered one of the top hospitality destinations in Crete for travelers seeking comfort, exceptional dining, and wellness.

Located on the northern coast of Crete, close to Hersonissos, the hotel enjoys an excellent location for guests who want to combine relaxation with sightseeing.

Within easy reach are beautiful beaches, traditional tavernas, shopping areas, and some of the island’s most famous attractions. The location also makes it convenient to visit Heraklion, the Palace of Knossos, and several of Crete’s stunning coastal destinations.

Despite its proximity to popular attractions, the atmosphere inside the resort is one of complete tranquility. The extensive gardens, winding pathways, and numerous pools scattered throughout the property create an environment that encourages guests to slow down and fully embrace the holiday experience.

One of the best decisions we made was booking a ground-floor room with access to a shared pool. This turned out to be one of the highlights of our stay.

Having direct access to the water from our private terrace provided a level of convenience and relaxation that is difficult to match. We could simply step outside and jump into the pool whenever we wanted, without having to search for sun loungers or walk to the main pool areas.

The room itself was spacious, comfortable, and elegantly decorated with Mediterranean-inspired touches. The generous layout, natural light, and tasteful furnishings created a relaxing environment where we genuinely enjoyed spending time.

The same applied to lunch and dinner. The main buffet restaurant featured a huge variety of dishes, and one of the most enjoyable elements was the themed dining nights. These rotating culinary experiences meant that every evening felt different and exciting.

The quality of the ingredients was consistently excellent, and there was a noticeable effort to showcase both authentic Greek cuisine and international favorites.

For guests interested in discovering local flavors, there were always numerous Cretan specialties available, highlighting the island’s famous ingredients such as olive oil, fresh vegetables, herbs, seafood, and regional cheeses.

À La Carte Restaurants Worth Booking

In addition to the buffet restaurant, the resort offers several à la carte dining venues specializing in different cuisines.

We had the opportunity to try a few of them during our stay and were very impressed by the quality of the experience. The atmosphere was more intimate, the service more personalized, and the dishes beautifully prepared.

One important tip for future guests is to make reservations as soon as you arrive. Reservations can be conveniently made through the hotel’s mobile app, which is simple and easy to use. Since these restaurants are very popular, booking early gives you a much better chance of experiencing all the different dining options available.

For us, these restaurants added another dimension to an already excellent culinary offering.

The Mitsis Royal Mare is also known for its impressive collection of swimming pools.

The various pool areas have been carefully designed to create different atmospheres, allowing guests to choose the setting that best suits their mood. Some areas are calm and peaceful, while others have a more lively holiday vibe.

The way the pools are integrated into the gardens and architecture is particularly impressive. In many places, the water seems to blend naturally into the surrounding landscape.

Throughout our stay, the pools were impeccably maintained and provided the perfect setting for long afternoons under the Cretan sun.

A Beautiful Beach Right on the Doorstep

Another aspect we particularly enjoyed was the resort’s beach area.

Located directly in front of the hotel, the beach offers a wonderful setting for spending time by the sea. Comfortable sun loungers, shaded areas, and excellent service make it easy to relax for hours.

The beach bar was one of our favorite features. Throughout the day, it was possible to enjoy cocktails, refreshing drinks, and snacks without leaving the beach.

This convenience allowed us to fully enjoy the seaside atmosphere while taking advantage of Crete’s beautiful weather and crystal-clear waters.

One of our favorite daily rituals took place at the main bar during the late afternoon.

In addition to serving excellent drinks, the bar offers stunning views over the sea and some truly spectacular sunsets. Watching the sky turn shades of gold, orange, and pink while sipping a perfectly crafted cocktail quickly became one of the highlights of our stay.

The bartenders were highly skilled, and the quality of the cocktails was among the best we experienced during our trip.

The combination of great drinks, breathtaking views, and a relaxed atmosphere made every evening feel special.

A Resort Focused on Wellness

Although we spent much of our time enjoying the pools and beach, it is worth mentioning that the resort is also widely recognized for its wellness facilities.

The property is home to one of the largest spa centers in Greece, offering a comprehensive range of treatments, massages, and wellness programs. This commitment to well-being is one of the reasons why the resort has built such a strong international reputation.
